Battle against Klein's new tax grab

Author: John Carpay 2002/01/27
EDMONTON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today launched a campaign against Premier Klein's proposed tax increases, featuring a petition to be circulated throughout Alberta. Taxpayers are encouraged to copy and distribute the petitions, which will be presented to Premier Klein when the Legislature reconvenes on Tuesday February 26, 2002. The petition will be widely distributed by mail, fax and e-mail.

The petition's preamble is worded as follows:

"The only way taxes are going in this province is down."
- Premier Ralph Klein, before the 2001 provincial election

Keep your promise, Premier Klein!
Don't increase health care premiums or any other tax.

If you insist on raising health care premiums or other taxes,
match that dollar-for-dollar with cuts to personal income tax.

"Albertans won't roll over for a tax increase," stated CTF-Alberta director John Carpay.

"The Alberta government spends more on programs, per person, than any other province in Canada. Alberta's program spending, per person, is 21% higher than the Canadian provincial average, and 43% higher than in Ontario. The last thing this government needs is more tax dollars."
